Destinytober Day 12 – October 12, 2025.

The prompt was “command”.

Elithia had never been one for authority. In fact, being a Guardian at all was such a questionable endeavor. She’d been dead, gone to the world and everything in it, when this steward of the Traveler decided she needed to wake up and be a nigh immortal being in its vast army? She was just supposed to wake up, dust off the vestiges of death, and fight for a cause she’d not asked to partake in. Elithia had never loved the sound of any of it and as soon as she could, had left to do her own thing.

Oddly, no one really did much to stop her. Command would occasionally call her via her Ghost, and she’d ignore it. Eventually they gave up. Despite being resurrected as a pawn in a war she wanted nothing to do with, there was no Brigg for her to be thrown in. There were, however, many briggs to fight. And for what reason? Because she had been told they were her enemies. Of course, they’d surely attack her if she ran across one. But WHY?

So, she’d spent her life, afterlife, whatever this was staying as far away from other Guardians as possible. Not a single one she’d ever met had questioned this arrangement. She hardly believed that they all just fell in line, but Elithia had yet to meet one who wasn’t on some merry quest for the Traveler because a speechless object floating in space had said so.

Her Ghost became used to it and the two really didn’t interact with one another. Occasionally, she would hover near Elithia’s head and inquire about how she was feeling. Sure, the few times she’d been down it had revived her. But that was the entire point of a Ghost, was it not? Elithia often wondered if her Ghost would one day get marching orders to simply let her stay downed, but her affections for the wayward Guardian seemed to give her more loyalty to Elithia than the Traveler.

It was odd then to find herself traveling around with another Guardian, doing the bidding of The Spire. If anyone asked, which no one had, she would be honest. She cared not at all for whatever The Spire was trying to achieve. What she did care for was the other Guardian and deep down, Elithia hated that about herself. She’d been alone for countless years. She’d not needed anyone. But somehow this Hunter had ensnared her so that she was willing doing the Traveler’s work. Success or failure of the missions was of little consequence. Elithia was simply along for the company for the first time in her undead life.
