The prompt was “Triumph”.

(It’s Destinytober time, which means I am following daily prompts for short, “one shot” style pieces about my current OCs in Destiny 2. I’ll post the month of prompts below in case anyone is interested in participating. You can write, draw, or any other form of art you yourself find appealing. One image is daily prompts, while the other are in sets of five days if you do not have the time or want to do daily pieces.)

And now for my take on day one – triumph:

She dodged tirelessly around the arena, unsure of how to bring the barrier that had risen between her and the Vex boss down. Ariadne had been doing damage just fine, firing arrows through the slits in its revolving shield, when a blue barricade appeared barring all progress. Vex minions swarmed the arena, making an already difficult traversal worse. Slap rifles lobbed rounds at her as she avoided the Vex milk. Frustration began to rise as she simply could not figure out how to reach the generators powering the shield, obscured as they were behind barricades themselves. There seemed to be two small holes in the floor that may lead to the generators. However, even in her small frame there was no way she’d fit in such a tiny space.

Finally finding a small nook in the arena where the Vex could not seem to reach her, Ariadne paused to take in her surroundings.  The far wall housed fans whose blades forced several resurrections before she decided that was not a viable option. Besides, that area did not seem to connect to the rooms housing the generators, so it was not worth a third and fourth thought. She’d tried looking for something emerging out of the vex milk, only to meet yet more uncomfortable deaths. The clue was here and right in front of her. She was sure of it.

As if willing the solution into existence, Ariadne finally put the pieces together. The hazy electric blue light emanating from the ground was both the clue and the answer. Matterspark was new, as was the entirety of Keplar, and in the midst of battle it had completely skipped her mind. She’d fit in those holes if she used Matterspark. Dodging yet more slap rifles blasts, she nimbly hopped over to the font of blue and communed with it.

The sensation was disorienting and came along with the physical feeling of being electrocuted but only slightly. There was no pain, per say, but a general buzzing she felt as she shed her body and became a small ball of energy.  Despite the difference in form, Vex milk still burned and enemy attacks still hurt. This made traversing the arena touch-and-go as Ariadne jumped platform to platform, avoiding altercations as she really couldn’t fight in this form.

Just as she thought, she slid effortlessly into the small hole in the floor and after following a winding tunnel ended up in the rooms with both generators. Charging them with this variant shape caused both the barricades of the rooms as well as the shield around the Vex Hydra to fall. She morphed back into her typical Hunter form and quickly dispatched of the boss and the remaining enemies. Tired yet triumphant, Ariadne pulled out her Ghost and reached out to Ikora and the enigmatic Lodi for further instruction.
